F.A.Q.

What types of events are appropriate for bagpipes?
Bagpipes are VERY LOUD, so they are better outdoors or in a large space. Your piper can enhance almost any experience—
Weddings
Funerals
Birthday/Anniversary parties
Graduations
Homecomings
Bon Voyage
Memorials
Awards ceremonies
Golf tournaments
—any occasion where you want color, a focus of attention and a strong emotional element.

How do I select a bagpiper?
Ask for a resume, pictures and references. You can also ask for an audition tape, sound files or a personal audition.

How do I select tunes?
Your piper can consult with you regarding selections appropriate for your occasion. There are traditional Scottish and Irish tunes he/she can suggest. Many nontraditional tunes can be transcribed for bagpipes; but bagpipes have a very limited range, so it may not be possible to include all the tunes you have in mind.

What will my piper wear?
Your piper should adapt his dress to your event. Len Wood can wear one of several colorful Scottish tartan kilts or a solid color Irish kilt (either green or saffron). Depending on time of day, weather and level of formality, he can wear a vest, a tweed jacket or a formal black jacket with the kilt; the outfit is completed with traditional accoutrements.

How much does it cost to hire a piper?
Some of the factors that affect fees are:
Duration of the event
Duration of performance
Location
Type of dress required
Preparation of special requests

Scotland the Brave
The Minstrel Boy
Amazing Grace
Intercontinental Gathering
